Meet the Team

Dr. Ryen Birkinbine

Dr. Birkinbine grew up in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. Following his undergraduate studies, he moved west to Colorado where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Colorado.

After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Birkinbine completed a three-year hospital-based residency program in Dental Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During his training at UPMC, Dr. Birkinbine provided anesthetic management for patients of all ages and health statuses. As a dental anesthesiology resident, he was able to train alongside his medical colleagues and provide care to patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical procedures and specialties. In addition to direct anesthesia training, he also completed rotations in internal medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonology and advanced lung disease, and pediatric emergency medicine.

He is especially grateful for his pediatric focused training at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as well as the opportunity to provide care for medically complex patients at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Patients with Special Needs. Dr. Birkinbine also received extensive training in outpatient office-based anesthesia specifically for maxillofacial and dental procedures. He is passionate about expanding access to dental care for his patients that are either apprehensive, anxious or unable to tolerate dental work in a traditional setting.

In his free time, Dr. Birkinbine can be found exploring the outdoors with his wife, Suzanne and their dog. They enjoy spending time in the mountains camping, skiing, mountain biking, or catching the sunrise on the summit of a Colorado 14er. Dr. Birkinbine is honored to be back in Colorado and strives to provide his patients with the highest level of care and respect.

Dr. Taylor Gordon

Dr. Gordon was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, where he studied biology and obtained his undergraduate degree with honors in 2011.  He went on to attend dental school at the Ohio State University, where he graduated with honors in 2015.  Dr. Gordon began his pursuit of training in anesthesiology after discovering that he could combine his dental training with his aptitude for medicine, pharmacology, and physiology.

Dr. Gordon completed a three-year residency in dental anesthesiology within the top-ranked University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  During his training, Dr. Gordon completed rotations in internal medicine, critical care medicine, cardiology, and pediatric emergency medicine.  He also provided anesthesia for a wide variety of surgical procedures and specialties including general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, plastic surgery, trauma, orthopedics, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, ENT, maxillofacial surgery, and more.

One of the greatest advantages to his training was the time spent specifically with dental patients in an office-based setting, where he treated patients of all ages and health statuses.  The University of Pittsburgh is home to the Center for Patients with Special Needs, where Dr. Gordon treated hundreds of patients who were either turned away by or unable to cooperate with treatment at traditional dental practices and children’s hospitals.  Some of the most rewarding work in Dr. Gordon’s career involves providing access to care for patients with special needs as well as to children, who are often pre-cooperative or afraid of dental treatment.

Dr. Gordon’s mission is to provide a full range of safe, office-based anesthesiology services to dental patients of all ages and levels of cooperation. When he is not working, Dr. Gordon enjoys road cycling, playing ice hockey, and spending time outdoors. Dr. Gordon is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
